A Reason to Celebrate – bimobil’s 30th Anniversary back to Overview -->

First company nameplate.
Thirty years ago Raimund von Liebe decided to turn his hobby into his profession. In 1977 the mechanical engineer founded his first “travel home company” in Munich. This one-man company has developed into a renowned German travel home manufacturer called bimobil - von Liebe GmbH, located in Oberpframmern in the beautiful surroundings of Munich. Our annual "bimobil Rally" will provide the perfect occasion to celebrate this auspicious 30th anniversary. From 14 until 16 September, owners and friends of bimobil will meet on the camping site of Badhütten Manor in Tettnang near Lake Constance. A full event programme will offer all-round entertainment, including a catamaran trip to the town of Konstanz as well as Zeppelin flights. A slideshow during the evening programme will recount the history of bimobil.

First “husky” cabin
bimobil constructed the first husky cabin way back in 1979 and developed the exclusive quick-mount system for pick-up base vehicles. Thanks to this system, the cabin is not mounted onto the cargo deck, but directly onto the vehicle chassis. This allows for more cabin width and enables the use of different superstructures such as transport containers. This quick-mount system also makes the base vehicle suitable for dual usage: as a travel home for long trips and as a transport vehicle at home. This dual usage functionality is actually the reason why we call ourselves "bimobil". Nowadays roughly 50% of travel vehicles manufactured in our modern production plant (completed in 1989) are equipped with this exclusive bimobil quick-mount system. This system is available for various base vehicles, ranging from small-sized 4WD Japanese pick-ups to VW and Ford transport vehicles. Various Iveco and Mercedes truck chassis are also delivered with this system. The other half of bimobil’s production comprises permanently mounted overhead-bay cabins, usually on 4WD base vehicles, and expedition vehicles.

.

First workshop
At present, bimobil’s 40 employees manufacture approximately 100 travel home vehicles per year. Over the past 30 years bimobil has built some 2,700 vehicles. Between 80% to 90% of these are still in service – proof of the high quality and solid craftsmanship present in all bimobil travel vehicles.
